SKI INSTRUCTION

In our view, the traditional "snow plough” and "stem" turn learning system was great for getting going and enjoying the slopes and having fun as quickly as possible.

However, we also believe that those of us who learned this way reinforced a number of habits that resulted in our skiing abilities reaching a plateau and limited our abilities as skiers in the long run.

In many or even most cases, we may have taken two days of lessons and then, once we felt we could make turns and control our speed, we believed we could now ski and it was just a matter of practising in order to get better. And so we practised away with these new found skills, steadily entrenching the moves into our "muscle memory".  On our next holiday we may not have felt the need for more lessons, or perhaps just a day or two of lessons "to get back into the swing of it". And so on our second (and subsequent) holiday we continued to reinforce the movements we had learned in our first 6 hours of lessons.

No one has ever told us that expert skiers do not use the movements we had been taught and so diligently practised and reinforced into our techniques. The outcome is that our skiing ability has "plateaued out". We just never seem to get any better.

We are not alone. At most ski resorts, if we look around we will see that there are a great many other skiers who ski just like we do. That is not to say we can't negotiate most slopes, we can and we do, we sometimes ski all the runs in the ski resort but we aspire to ski like those other skiers, who seem to float down the mountain with their feet moving under a quiet and stable upper body, making those lovely round arc turns.

For those who can associate with this experience:

  • We know how to help skiers unlearn those habits and establish new ones which will enable them to ski those “skied out”, bumpy pistes and steeper slopes as well as to venture into deep powder.
  •  All our tours are accompanied by our own Austrian qualified ski instructors.
  •  We provide pre-tour exercises, theoretical ski instruction and video analysis.

Of course there is no obligation to make use of the facility - our guests are free to use it when they wish, or not at all and to simply enjoy an entirely private holiday should they prefer.
