"The worst day skiing is still better than the best day working"
Ski in Italy and France on the same lift pass! The ski resorts of La Thuile in Italy and La Rosiere in France share opposite sides of the same Alpine mountain range.
Considering both La Rosiere and La Thuile the ski area is quite extensive and there are over 150 km of prepared pistes.served by 37 lifts. Though the lifts on the whole are not the large seater high speed variety so abundant in Ischgl there are very seldom queues. Therein lies one of the attractions for many, the slopes are normally uncrowded.
The slopes generally suit beginners and intermediates but there is also more than sufficient to interest experts. On the Italian side the grading, as in many Italian resorts, tends to overstate difficulty and many of the runs that are marked red ought to be no more than blue. On the French side the runs tend to be both steeper and bumpier.
For beginners there are nursery slopes at Les Suches and in the village and long easy blues to progress to above Le Suches.
For intermediates, there is plenty of cruising to be enjoyed above Les Suches and there are also red routes back to the village through the trees.
For experts there is some genuinely black terrain and an abundance of off piste and for those who would like to do it, take a helicopter to the Ruitor glacier for a 12 km run to Ste-Foy in France, from where it is quite easy to catch a taxi for the short ride back to the lifts on the La Rosiere side.
La-Thuile is generally a quite village and this is not he place to go to if you are wanting to find high voltage apre-ski.
